The 10th Anniversary International Conference “Consulting Without Borders - Working Together for a Better Future”

2020 has seen a restatement and greater interest in key global issues affecting our future, well-being and, ultimately, our happiness.  The challenges focus on enhancing the climate dialogue, fighting inequalities and building a sustainable future for a growing population on a shrinking resource base.

The 10th Anniversary International Conference “Consulting Without Borders” of the Gabriel Al-Salem Foundation will look at how we, as consultants and other professionals, can contribute to better “joined up thinking/joined up action” to help solve the key global issues and work together for a better future.

Dates and Time: The Conference will take place on February 1 and 2, 2021, from 10:00 to 14:00 GMT.  As our participants come from all over the globe, the time has been carefully selected to make it reasonably convenient for all.

Format: As the safety of our participants is our top priority, we have decided to deliver our annual conference “Consulting Without Borders” as a digital event so that you could join us from the comfort of your home anywhere in the world.  With no travel expenses, attending the conference “Consulting Without Borders” this time will be easy and affordable!

While we may not be seeing you in person, we are committed to creating the same valuable and engaging experience that we have been known for.  Our virtual event will feature the following activities:

  • Keynote presentations and panel discussions including live Q&A;
  • Networking opportunities for you to connect with speakers, partner experts and other participants through group meetings, private messaging and other virtual social events and activities;
  • Launch of a Mentoring Program allowing participants and stakeholders to access skills of experienced professionals;
  • Virtual ceremony for the winners of the International Award for Excellence in Consulting 2020; virtual cocktail party and live entertainment.

Agenda: The Conference main discussion will be structured around four Dialogue Streams, which will include key presentations, panel discussions, case studies, networking opportunities, and live Q&As.

Dialogue Stream 1: Happiness – The Ultimate Goal

Moderator: Robinder Sachdev, President, Imagindia Institute (India)

Key questions:

  • Creative thinking and happiness in the VUCA world (“VUCA” - Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity);
  • Human happiness vs. economic growth?
  • Well-being and happiness: what can improve our quality of life?
  • Is there such thing as sustainable happiness? (Happiness that contributes to individual, community and global well-being and does not exploit other people, the environment or future generation).

Dialogue Stream 2: One World

Moderator: Roman Vakulchuk, Senior Researcher at Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI)

We have only one world, but do we appreciate this?  Key questions:

  • Sustainable development – does it exist? What is it?
  • How environmental quality affects our happiness?
  • How do we address inequities in the ownership and use of resources?

Dialogue Stream 3: The Richness of Diversity

Moderator: Viktoria Olskaia, President, Gabriel Al-Salem Foundation (USA)

Why is diversity important? Key questions:

  • How does culture shape our view of sustainable development?
  • Cultural risk management;
  • Cultural appreciation versus cultural appropriation: why does it matter?

Dialogue Stream 4: Partnerships and Cooperation for Success

Moderator: Stephen Tupper, International Development Consultancy (UK)

The United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #17 was specifically designed to encourage working together more effectively for sustainable development. A successful development agenda requires inclusive partnerships — at the global, regional, national and local levels — built upon principles and values, and upon a shared vision and shared goals placing people and the planet at the centre.

Key questions:

  • How can global partnerships improve sustainable development?
  • How do we build shared vision and establish shared goals?
  • How to mobilize resources to achieve SDGs?

Participants: The Gabriel Al-Salem Foundation seeks its own partners for the delivery of this event, as well as participants who wish to contribute to the dialogue.  We see this online event as a unique opportunity for the participants of prior conferences and the winners of the International Award for Excellence in Consulting to catch up, exchange ideas and share valuable experiences and stories of their work and success.

Participation Fee:  $10 – $500 as a contribution to the Foundation.
